Located on the serene banks of the holy Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh, TTD Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati stands as a magnificent testament to devotion and architectural grace. While the ancient Buddhist heritage of Amaravati often takes the spotlight, this Hindu temple offers a powerful and unique spiritual energy, drawing pilgrims and travelers seeking the blessings of Lord Venkateswara.

TTD Venkateswara Swamy Temple Amaravati

The Significance: Why Visit This Temple?

Unlike the famed Tirumala Temple, the Amaravati Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple is a modern marvel, consecrated in 1983. Its significance, however, is deeply rooted in the region's spiritual landscape.

  • Originally consecrated in 1983, the Amaravati Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple serves as a Tirumala-inspired alternative for devotees who cannot make the pilgrimage to Tirupati.

  • The temple is built in classic Dravidian architectural style, featuring carved pillars, prakarams (circumambulatory paths), and a majestic gopuram.

  • Located on 25 acres near the Krishna River, the temple holds both religious and cultural importance for the Amaravati region.

Update on Second Prakaram at Amaravati Sri Venkateswara Temple:

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced a major expansion plan for the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati (Venkatapalem). The new development includes a grand Second Prakaram, additional gopurams, and sacred structures — set to transform the temple into a significant spiritual landmark.

What the Second Prakaram Plan Includes

Grand Expansion

  • A new outer courtyard (prakaram) will surround the existing temple, greatly enlarging the temple complex.

  • The architecture will closely mirror Tirumala-style design, bringing together tradition and modern devotional infrastructure.

Majestic Gopurams

  • Seven-storey Maha Rajagopuram on the East side, acting as the main entrance gate.

  • Five-storey Vayu Gopurams will be built on the North, South, and West sides — elevating the temple’s architectural grandeur.

Sacred Structures Inside

  • A Hanuman Temple and an Utsava Mandapam (festival hall) will be added inside the new prakaram.

  • A Koneru (temple tank) facing the Maha Rajagopuram to bring spiritual and aesthetic balance to the complex.

Conclusion

The Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati is a beacon of devotion and architectural splendor. It offers a tranquil yet powerful spiritual experience, perfectly complementing the historical journey through ancient Buddhist sites. Whether you are a devout pilgrim or a curious traveler seeking cultural depth, this temple promises a visit that will leave you with a sense of peace and wonder. The decision by TTD to construct a Second Prakaram around the Amaravati Sri Venkateswara Temple marks a bold leap forward for this sacred site. With soaring gopurams, added temples, and enhanced devotee infrastructure, the temple is not just expanding — it's evolving into a spiritual powerhouse. This development beautifully complements the temple’s existing legacy and reinforces Amaravati’s role as a growing pilgrimage destination.
