Electric Bus Services To Rohtang Pass

The Border Roads Organisation has reopened the 485 km-long Manali-Leh highway for traffic. Due to the heavy snowfall this year, the route was opened  late compared to the previous year.

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation has also started its electric bus service to the Rohtang pass from 10 June. Four electric buses have been sent to the Rohtang pass.
The electric buses are manufactured in a tie-up with Chinese firm BYD Auto Industry Co Ltd.

Himachal Pradesh had not only become the first state to commission 100 percent battery-powered electric buses but also the first in the world to ply them at an altitude of 3, 978 meters (13,000 feet) on mountainous terrain of Pir Panjal ranges of the eastern Himalayas.

The electric buses having seating capacity of 25 passengers each would leave from Manali bus stand in the morning and halt for 2 hours at Rohtang Pass.

As of now the booking of seat was only possible through the HRTC counter at Manali but soon the booking facility would be provided online through the HRTC portal.
