Thousands of birds of nearly 240 species visit the lake during winter. The annual visitation of birds, makes Pulicat and Nellapattu, a visual delight.
The winged species will prepare nests, brood the eggs and return to their native places along with their young ones by April. The migratory birds regularly visiting the district, include pelicans, flemingos, painted strokes, red legged cranes, pintails and black-winged birds.
